Ashes Of My Regrets is a five-piece metalcore band out of New Jersey. The band released their debut EP, We All Have Demons in 2014, and is set to release a brand new EP, Caricatures, on Nov. 4th. Fans of Asking Alexandria, Bring Me The Horizon, and Memphis May Fire will definitely dig AOMR’s brand of slamming metalcore.

Leading up to the EP’s release I had a quick chat with guitarist Brandon Rodriguez about the new album, their “Daydreams” video, and more. Check out the full interview below.

The band formed in 2012, how did the five of you start playing together?

I met our drummer Juan in high school. We were friends for a while and then I was introduced to his band. Then I was friends with them and joined as the DJ for our backtracks and then I moved to guitar when our other guitarist left.

With so many bands out there in this metalcore scene, how do you develop a sound that is your own?

We just kinda do our own things but we do however make it a point to try new things that nobody has heard of.

What kind of stuff were you listening to that first got you into heavier music?

I grew up listening to Avenged Sevenfold, Pantera and then it just kept going from there when new bands would come out.

If you could choose any musician/vocalist (or two) to guest on a future recording with Ashes of My Regrets, who do you pick? And why?

I’d choose Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills, I just love his voice.

Caricatures comes out in just a couple days! How are you feeling leading up to release day?

I’m stoked and also nervous! I hope people enjoy it!

How long have you been working on these songs?

We’ve been working on these songs for about a year and a half.

What was the writing process like for with Caricatures?

I usually start with a riff or a chorus and then I bring it to our vocalist and we work on it until the song is done.

Is that a change in your songwriting style compared to We All Have Our Demons?

I personally feel like we’ve matured as musicians since the release of our debut EP. Caricatures is the best version of ourselves at this point in our journey.

What kind of themes do you cover on the EP?

We have multiple themes throughout the entire EP. “Incorruptible” is about depression, “Daydreams” is about hope. Each song is associated with a different emotion.

Is there anything you’re hoping the listener will take away from this album?

Hopefully people will take these songs and help themselves out in hard times. Writing these songs helped me get over a lot of hard times.

I couldn’t pick a favorite, but “Fooled Me Twice, Now Pay The Price” and “Daydreams” are tracks that I definitely keep coming back to. Is there a moment on the record, whether lyric, vocals, or musically, that is a favorite or something you’re especially proud of?

My favorite moments on the record are the 2nd and 3rd choruses in “Daydreams”! The way it kicks into the post chorus just gets me pumped.

Right on. The “Daydreams” video looks awesome! Can you tell me a little bit about the making of?

We shot the video with Alex Kouvatsos, owner of Blackwolf Imaging. We filmed the video in a warehouse about 20 minutes from home. To get all the water effects we just poured buckets of water on the floor and on our drummer’s entire kit. It was a super fun shoot and can’t wait to do it again!

What is the future plans for Ashes? Touring? More videos in the works?

We have some cool stuff planned, you’ll just have to wait and see!
